Coffee

Coffee cultivated and exported from Indonesia is currently the fourth largest in the world in terms of production of 648,000 tonnes, after Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia.

There are basically three types of coffee beans that grow in Indonesia, namely Arabica coffee beans, Robusta coffee beans, and Liberika coffee beans.
Coffee in Indonesia has a long history and has an important role for the economic growth of people in Indonesia. Indonesia is blessed with a geographical location that is very suitable to function as coffee plantation land. Indonesia’s location is ideal for a microclimate for coffee growth and production.

Spice

Spices are aromatic or strong-tasting parts of plants that are used in small quantities in food as preservatives or flavorings in cooking.

Indonesia is already known as a country with abundant spices. So abundant, during the colonial era, various countries in the world had ambitions and hunted to control the spices in Indonesia.
Until now, Indonesian spices are still popular and attract the world’s attention. This is evident from the high number of typical Indonesian spices that are exported to various countries, such as pepper, cloves, nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon.

According to data from Katadata, spice exports in Indonesia in January-April 2020 reached US$218.69 million, an increase of 19.28% compared to the same period in the previous year. It doesn’t stop there, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in 2016 Indonesia was ranked 4th as a spice-producing country in the world.

Indonesia is also a areca nut exporting country, it is recorded that Indonesia controls areca nut exports globally. By 2021, more than 60 percent of the world’s areca exports will come from Indonesia. The second largest areca nut exporting country is a friendly country still in Southeast Asia, namely Myanmar. Followed by Sri Lanka in third position. The export value of areca nuts from each country is US$ 139 million and US$ 46 million respectively. The main destination for areca nut exports nationally is Thailand. The export value to this white elephant country reached US$ 357 million. More than 50 percent of areca nut is exported to this neighboring country. The next largest areca nut export destinations are Iran and India. During 2021 the value is more than US$ 50 million and US$ 40 million.
